Permits

The importation of certain goods, articles and merchandise is prohibited or restricted by Bahamian law. Failure to obtain permissions or declare such items to the appropriate authority may involve seizure and liability penalties. Such items include imported fruit or other plant materials, animals, birds, drugs, and firearms.

Any persons wishing to import restricted items should contact the eleuav Trip Support Team at least 1 - 2 days in advance, during regular business hours, so we can secure the proper paperwork.

Temporary Work Permits

The laws of the Bahamas are very clear regarding expatriates participating in gainful employment in the Bahamas - it is prohibited.

However, from time to time, flight departments, and airline operators require maintenance crews to work on aircraft or specialized equipment. In such cases a temporary work permit can be obtained.

Owners, Operators or Technical Crews wishing to enter the Bahamas for these purposes should contact the eleuav Trip Support Team at the earliest opportunity to ensure that the proper authorities are advised and permissions granted.

Animal Permits

Without exception all animals, including pets, must meet the necessary veterinary requirements. For further information on veterinary requirements, and the procedure for entering the Bahamas with animals, be sure to contact our Trip Support Team.

Guns/Firearms Permits

An application for a gun license/permit has to be made to the commissioner of police in New Providence, or to the administrator in the family islands. A separate application is required for each gun.

Note: Temporary importation of guns (excluding handguns) must be authorized by the police commissioner

Fruit and other plant materials

The eleuav Trip Support Team requires advance notification of the intent to import fruit and other plant materials into the Bahamas.

  • Note: even a fruit tray is seen by the Bahamas Customs Authorities as the importation of fruit.
